Museum of Domestic Design & Architecture
Website Development, Digital Strategy
The allure of looking at nice things on the web is strong for many of us. Sometimes it feels like we've just got to read the whole of the internet before we've even had our morning coffee. This often leads me to feeling like I should give it all up and stop spending my days looking at desirable objects online. Starting work on a project for the Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture in 2014 was perhaps not the time to make such a resolution - their collections are, frankly, beautiful.
MoDA’s collection is, in the main, for online consumption only. It can also be seen on request and via touring exhibitions. Getting their web presence right therefore is critical for the team at MoDA and we were delighted when they asked us to help them with their digital strategy in 2014.
We worked with the small team at MoDA to really unpick where they were with their web presence, where they would like to be and how they might get there. We have looked at content management, site structure, usability, content strategy, SEO, social presence, analytics and gave the team our ideas and recommendations.
The team took all our recommendations on board and in 2017 asked us to develop their new website based on the strategy and audit.
The end result is a highly visual site which focuses on the amazing catalogue. The records in the catalogue are themselves updated via a call to the MoDA collections management system API – on the website we’ve used our CultureObject plugin to perform this functionality.
