Somerset Art Works

Website build

Somerset Art Works is an artist-led organisation dedicated to developing the visual arts. They approached us in early 2014 to help them scope out a digital strategy and use this to inform the build of a brand new website.

We worked closely with the team at SAW to help them develop a coherent and meaningful set of digital principles. These principles were then used as the basis of the project plan for a new website build.

The team already had a website, but by their own admission it had become over-complex and was based on an outdated CMS which the editors found hard to use. We used the project plan and digital principles to come up with a brand new information architecture for the site – one with users at the centre – and then put together a simple branded look and feel designed to make the most of the stunning artworks featured on the site.

The end result is a responsive WordPress build with an in-built membership system which allows the team to take membership renewals online. Participating artists can also upload and amend their own directory details.

  • Half it in size. Then half it again.

I’m sitting looking at my inbox. It’s a bit full – I’ve been away for a week. I’ve done a bunch of culling but in there are three newsletters catching my eye, all from museums or museum related people. Out of interest, I just pasted each one into http://wordcounttools.com. They average 1,400 words each. Here’s my mental […]

Yesterday, we revamped and updated our resources section – these are free worksheets, guides and templates which are supposed to help organisations get a better handle on digital engagement.
