In 2020 we started work with the Wiener Holocaust Library. Based in Russell Square in London, the library is dedicated to the support of research, learning, teaching and advocacy about the Holocaust and genocide.
As with most projects, we spent a fair amount of time workshopping with the WHL team and got to understand their needs before embarking on the website build.
The site is a WordPress build and features custom functionality around events and exhibitions. There is also an online “collection highlights” section which has our CultureObject plugin running under the hood; we also built a custom plugin which integrates with the Soutron (library catalogue) API. This returns catalogue results next to the normal “on-site” search results.
Once again, we’ve been using Elastic Search to facilitate the search on the site. We’re increasingly impressed with what this amazing tool can do – not only is it blisteringly fast and accurate, but we’ve also been working on a custom ES plugin which will help us build faceted searches in the future.
Thirty8 Digital stood out from the crowd from our first meeting and have not disappointed since. What makes them different is the way they combine insight, honesty and flexibility. You only get that from companies that really care about the work that they do and their clients. We redesigned our main website from top to bottom in 2020 with Mike and Rachel. All of the best projects are fun, creative, impactful, on time and on budget! We got all of these things and we look forward to a long working relationship that will bring lasting benefits to our diverse users and stakeholders.
I’m so pleased we made the decision to appoint Thirty8 Digital to run our website development project; they had brilliant creative ideas, were great communicators and really importantly they understand the challenges of developing a museum website (especially doing so on a tight budget!) The end result is fantastic, and the ongoing support they’ve given us since the launch has also been brilliant. ...

Thirty8 Digital are rather like a good pair of thigh-high boots. Bold, comfortable and they help you stand out from the crowd, but the engineering is top notch....

I have worked with Thity8 Digital in the past and it was an easy decision to work with them again on a new project. This time it was to evaluate the Britten-Pears Foundation’s digital offer and work on a two-phased website project....
